This page provides general safety guidance for parents and guardians using Babisy to review profiles, communicate with babysitters and make independent childcare decisions.
Your Responsibility as a Parent or Guardian
Babisy provides an online marketplace where users can create profiles, view profiles and communicate with one another.
Babisy does not provide childcare services, employ or supervise babysitters, arrange childcare services, or guarantee the identity, experience, qualifications, conduct or suitability of any user.
Access to premium or messaging features does not mean that Babisy has screened, approved, recommended or endorsed a user.
Parents and guardians are responsible for:
- evaluating babysitters independently;
- verifying information provided in profiles;
- deciding whether a babysitter is suitable for their family;
- agreeing directly on duties, schedules, payment and expectations; and
- supervising and managing their childcare arrangements.
Review Profiles Carefully
Before contacting or hiring a babysitter, carefully review the information available on their profile.
Consider:
- experience and relevant skills;
- availability and communication style;
- whether the profile appears complete and consistent;
- whether the information provided answers your questions; and
- whether anything appears unclear, incomplete or misleading.
Profile information is provided by users and should not be treated as independently verified unless Babisy expressly states otherwise.
Communicate Before Making Arrangements
Consider using Babisy’s messaging features for initial communication.
Ask questions about matters that are important to your family, including:
- previous childcare experience;
- age groups previously cared for;
- availability;
- expected duties;
- comfort with pets;
- allergies or medical considerations;
- emergency procedures;
- transportation expectations; and
- household rules and boundaries.
Avoid sharing sensitive personal information, your exact home address or detailed information about your child before you are comfortable proceeding.
Verify Information Independently
Before confirming an arrangement, consider taking reasonable verification steps based on your family’s needs.
These may include:
- speaking by phone or video call;
- meeting the babysitter in person;
- requesting identification;
- checking references;
- confirming qualifications or certifications;
- asking about first-aid or CPR training; and
- requesting an appropriate police record check where you consider it necessary.
Babisy does not conduct these checks on behalf of parents unless a specific feature expressly states otherwise.
Arrange an Initial Meeting
Consider meeting the babysitter before leaving them responsible for your child.
The meeting may allow you to:
- discuss expectations;
- observe how the babysitter communicates with you and your child;
- explain household routines and boundaries;
- review emergency information; and
- decide whether the arrangement feels appropriate.
For an initial in-person meeting, consider choosing a setting and arrangement where you feel safe and comfortable.
Consider a Trial Session
Before committing to an ongoing arrangement, consider beginning with:
- a short meeting;
- a supervised interaction;
- a limited trial session; or
- another arrangement that allows you to assess suitability.
A successful initial meeting or trial does not guarantee future performance, so continue to monitor whether the arrangement remains suitable.
Set Clear Expectations
Before childcare begins, discuss and agree on:
- dates and hours;
- duties and responsibilities;
- payment and cancellation arrangements;
- meals, allergies and medication instructions;
- screen-time rules;
- bedtime and household routines;
- visitors and authorized persons;
- transportation and outings;
- photography and social-media boundaries;
- emergency contacts; and
- when and how the parent or guardian should be contacted.
Provide accurate information about your child’s needs and any relevant conditions that may affect their care or safety.
Protect Personal Information
Share only the information reasonably needed for the arrangement.
Consider avoiding the unnecessary sharing of:
- banking or credit-card information;
- passwords or account credentials;
- identity documents;
- alarm codes or access codes;
- detailed schedules;
- private medical information; and
- information identifying your child’s school or regular locations.
When access information must be shared, consider changing temporary access codes after the arrangement ends.
Watch for Warning Signs
Use caution where a user:
- provides inconsistent information;
- refuses reasonable questions;
- pressures you to make an immediate decision;
- asks for unnecessary personal or financial information;
- requests unusual advance payments;
- refuses an initial conversation or meeting;
- behaves inappropriately toward you or your child; or
- asks you to keep communications or conduct secret.
If something feels inappropriate or unsafe, pause communication or discontinue the arrangement.
Reporting Concerns
You may report suspicious profiles, inappropriate messages or possible violations of Babisy’s Community Guidelines.
Babisy may review a report and take action under its Terms of Use and Community Guidelines. Babisy cannot guarantee a particular investigation, outcome or response time.
Reporting conduct to Babisy does not replace contacting emergency services, police, a children’s aid society or another appropriate authority.
Child-Safety Concerns and Emergencies
Babisy is not an emergency service.
If a child or another person is in immediate danger, call 911 or the appropriate local emergency service.
If you have reasonable grounds to suspect that a child may be abused, neglected or otherwise in need of protection, contact the appropriate children’s aid society or other child-protection authority directly, as required by applicable law.
Do not rely only on reporting the concern to Babisy.
